PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): At least three members of a family have been killed and six others wounded as a result of a mortar strike in Pul-i-Khumri, sources said on Saturday.
Local inhabitants said the incident occurred in Joy-i-Naw village of Dand-i-Ghori area near the provincial capital on Friday night.
Resident Haji Farhad Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the mortar shell struck the house of a family that had moved to Joy-i-Naw from Sang-i-Charak area.
He added three individuals were killed and six others wounded — all members of same family. The victims included women and children.
The family head, who wished not to be named, said they were praying when the mortar shell hit their house. Two of his sons and a daughter were killed in the incident.
Abdullah Malang, spokesman for the Public Health Department, confirmed the incident to Pajhwok and said six wounded people and three bodies were brought to hospital.
The deceased included two girls and a one year old boy, the official said.
Earlier in the week, a mortar shell struck in a house in HussainKhil area of Pul-i-Khumri, killing one infant and wounding three others.
