KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Saturday said mucormycosis also known as black fungus has been detected in Covid-19 patients in three provinces of the country.
The ministry said that the cases were detected in Kabul, Baghlan and Samangan provinces in the last three days. These three cases were diagnosed based on clinical signs in Covid-19 positive patients, he added.
Dr. Wahid Majroh, acting public health minister, said that there were no doubts about the diagnosis of the mucormycosis cases considering clinical findings and signs.
Two of the patients infected with mucormycosis were also diabetic, the minister said.
He called the black fungus diseases one of rare diseases and said that no such cases had been detected in the previous years in Afghanistan. “The black fungus disease is found in people whose immune system is weak,” he added.
