Agriculture tools distributed among tens of Jawzjan women

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Agriculture equipment were distributed among some women in northern Jawzjan province on Monday, an official said.

The women, hailing the move, believed they would attain economic self-reliance through the agriculture tools and would earn thousands of afghanis monthly.

Acting Agriculture Director Shafiqullah Talash said: “These equipment that include 11 types of agriculture tools were distributed to 400 women in Aqcha, Khwaja Dokoh districts and Shiberghan, the provincial capital.”

He said the agriculture equipment were useful for women farmers while cultivating their land, adding that through these equipment they could better manage their work.

Currently, he said at least 2,000 women in Shiberghan City, Khawaja Dokoh and Aqcha were associated with agriculture.

More vegetable availability in the market is due to the hard work and professional growing of these women.  Women who received the agriculture equipment are happy.

Habiba, an agriculture woman from Kahalk village of Shiberghan, said: “From the past four years, I have been busy in agriculture. I grow onion, beet root, vegetable, carrots, pepper and other products. From this way I support myself.”

When asked how much she earned in a month from her profession, she said: “I do not calculate my earnings on monthly basis but I support my family with this profession.”

Sumayah, another woman from the Murghab village of Shiberghan, said: “Before embarking on farming, I was at home and always would go to my parents to meet my financial needs; But today I find the money I need myself.”

She added she knew to cultivate different items ranging from emeralds to saffron and other products.
