KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Monday claimed attacking a huge gathering of Taliban militants near the capital of central Maidan Wardak province, killing a number of insurgents including commanders.
However, the Taliban rejected the claim and said no such thing had happened in the province.
In a statement, the spy service said its forces raided a big meeting of the Taliban in Mamki village near Maidan Shahr, the provincial capital. The statement said key commanders of the group attended the meeting.
It said the gathering was aimed at planning attacks on security forces.
But a resident of Charki village of Maidan Shahr, Kamin Gul Gulabzoi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that no attack on a Taliban gathering had taken place in the area. He said a dead body of a rebel had been found dumped on the road.
He said there was no information how the rebel was killed. “When people came close to the dead body, it was of a Taliban remains on the road.”
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also rejected attack on a gathering of their fighters, saying only one Taliban fighter named Hamza had been killed.
