PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan Prime Minister Imran has voiced concern over the worsening security environment in Afghanistan.
In a phone call with Iranian President-elect Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday, he feared the situation in Afghanistan could lead to serious repercussions for both Pakistan and Iran.
If not contained, the growing insecurity in Afghanistan could result in an influx of refugees tow border areas of Iran and Pakistan, Khan warned in a statement from his office.
The two leaders underlined the need for continuing to facilitate an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned inclusive political settlement.
Khan phoned Raisi and congratulated him on his victory in the presidential elections. He said Raisi’s win was reflective of the Iranian people’s trust in his leadership.
They also expressed satisfaction with the upward trajectory of bilateral relations and agreed on further boosting the existing cooperation.
The premier once again underscored the need for a negotiated political settlement to the conflict in Afghanistan, where the Taliban have made territorial gains in recent weeks.
