KABUL (Pajhwok): The UK will keep a small number of special forces unit soldiers in Afghanistan after the pullout of US and NATO troops from the country.
The Telegraph quoted a former Special Air Service (SAS) soldier as saying the contingent would provide training to Afghan units and deploy with them on the ground as advisers.
The former service-member, who served in Afghanistan until recently, said there was no determined time for how long the UK special forces would stay in Afghanistan.
He added: “As long as they continue to see value, they will keep forces there. It’s not a pleasant place at the moment, people are scared and rightly so.”
The ex-SAS soldier acknowledged the Taliban continued to control the countryside, waiting for the exit of the coalition forces
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to make an official decision on the matter during a meeting of the National Security Council later on Monday.
