SHEBRGHAN (Pajhwok): Local officials on Tuesday said that a laboratory to produce mushroom seeds had been activated in northwestern Jawzjan province that would create job for hundreds of women in the province.
The laboratory is activated with the financial support of German Agro Action under the auspices of the Agriculture Department of Jawzjan.
Shafiqullah Talash, acting Jawzjan agriculture director, said that the laboratory would soon start functioning under the framework of the Agriculture Department of the province .
Besides creating work opportunity for 380 women in Shebrghan city, the provincial capital, the factory would also provide mushroom seeds for female mushroom farmers in Balkh, Sar-i-Pul and Faryab provinces, he said.
Nasrullah Sultani, head of German Agro Action office said that currently three laboratories worth 2.5 million US dollar were opened in Jawzjan, Herat and Samangan proivnces.
He said that soon a mushroom seeds professional would be employed in the laboratory to train agriculture officers on the field.
“Before the laboratories opened in the three provinces, women were purchasing mushroom seeds from Kabul and Nangarhar provinces and the access to the seeds was very hard,” he said.
Abdul Qadir Malia, deputy Jawzjan governor while opening the factory, said, “If the first news in other provinces is about war and violence, people in Jawzjan talk about developments and women’s partnership in vital works.”
He said that people lived with high spirit in Jawzjan and women’s participation in different parties and gatherings showed that the province was secure.
A day earlier, Jawzjan agriculture department distributed working equipment to 370 female farmers.
