MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Pakistan and Turkey say their consulates in the northern city of Maar-i-Sharif remain functional, rejecting media reports about the closure of their diplomatic missions.
Earlier, some media reports said diplomatic missions of Turkey, Pakistan and some other countries had suspended issuing visas to Afghans and ceased their activities in the capital of northern Balkh province.
In a statement, the Turkish consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif said its activities and services remained normal. Reports about the closure of the consulate were incorrect, it added.
“Our consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif continues to operate as usual, with visa issuance, translation and other services proceeding normally,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador in Kabul Mansoor Ahmad Khan also denied reports about closure of his country’s consulate.
He wrote on his Twitter account that their consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif was functioning normally. He said Pakistan valued its relationship with the government and people of Afghanistan.
