KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Local officials on Tuesday said that practical work on the first phase of urban master plan for the capital of northeastern Kunduz province has officially launched.
Najibullah Omarkhel, acting Kunduz governor, talking to the launching ceremony of the master plan, said that the project included asphalting of 7.97 kilometers road between the center of Kunduz city to the provincial airport.
Construction of walkways, 25 culverts and decorative flower pots on both sides are part of the road construction, he said.
Implementation of urban master plan was a long waiting dream of Kunduz people, he said. “Owners of properties in Kunduz city are endorsed the plan and practical work on the project started today,” he said.
Omarkhel called ongoing conflicts in the country the cause of destructions in the country and asked people to support the government in implementing the major project and prevent opportunists from destroying roads and bridges.
He asked the Taliban to stop violence and take part in the development programs in the province.
Kunduz people welcomed the launch of first phase of the urban master plan as a great step against war and destructions and promised to protect and maintain all projects, particularly the master plan.
The project costs over 248 million Afghanis that would be paid from the government’s development budget.
The master plan is scheduled to complete in the next 14 months.
