SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok):  Each of 15,000 families affected by drought in the center and districts of northeastern Sar-i-Pul province would be provided with 100kg of wheat, officials said on Wednesday.

The government-led wheat distribution process began today in the center of the province.

Director of provincial Department of Disaster Management GhulamSakhiWira confirmed each affected family would be given 100kg of wheat in aid.

He added that in the coming days drought-affected families in districts would be distributed the aid.

Head of the Sar-i-Pul provincial council, MohammadNurRahmani hailed the development but said the aid was not enough and urged the central government to provide food and non-food aid to the recent war-affected displaced families.

Shahla, a resident of Sayad district who has currently displaced to the provincial center due to drought, benefited from the assistance. But she also said the aid was not enough and the government should provide more assistance to the drought-affected people.

Aziza, another displaced from SozmaQala district, thanked the government for the assistance and said the government must have programs to support farmers badly affected by the drought.

The drought has affected not only Sar-i-Pul but some other provinces as well.
