PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s No 1 boxer Hamid Khan has been knocked out in a lightweight title contest in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar.
Hamid was trounced by his Pakistani rival in a bout of the Usman Wazir International Professional Boxing Competition at the Qayyum Stadium on Tuesday.
Kamran Abdul Wahab, in a superb display of ruthless punches, gave Hamid Khan no room to settle and easily downed him in the second round.
In a post-match comment, the winner told reporters: “I worked hard for the fight and that is why I won against my strong rival — Afghanistan’s No.1.”
Hamid did offer some resistance in the first of the eight-round encounter and even managed to shoot into lead. But he was outclassed in the second round.
Two other top Afghan boxers Haseen Ullah and Haroon Khan were also outplayed by their Pakistani opponents Sajjad Hazara and Yamin Khan in the feather and super-welter and lightweight battles respectively.
