Afghanistan records 86 Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 813 new Covid-19 cases and 86 deaths from the virus have been recorded in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Health said on Saturday.

The ministry said 2,855 tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 813 people, taking Afghanistan’s overall tally to 133,578.

Kabul recorded the highest number of cases (130) followed by western Ghor province where the virus was detected in 68 people.

At least 64 each new cases were found in Kandahar and Parwan, 58 in Bamyan, 49 in Kunduz, 45 in Daikundi, 37 each in Helmand, Ghazni and Kunar, 35 each in Nangarhar, Nimroz and Zabul, 25 in Logar, 24 in Takhar, 21 in Farah, 15 in Baghlan, 14 each in Faryab and Laghman, four in Herat and two in Balkh province.

At least 758 individuals recovered from the pandemic during the period, pushing the number of total recoveries to over 80,226.

A statement from MoPH said 86 people died of the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 5,724.

The global infection tally has reached 186 million and over four million have lost their lives to the pandemic.
