Fuel, gold prices increased in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of cooking oil, motor fuel and gold have increased while the rates of rice and tea had dipped during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said Saturday.

The prices of fuel have increased by 5.8 percent this week.

A worker at the Hashimi Fuel Station in Taimani area told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of one liter of diesel increased from 53 Afghanis to 55 Afghanis and the same quantity of petrol from 52afs to 55afs.

He said that closure of transportation routes, worsened insecurity and depreciation of Afghani currency against USD were the reasons of high fuel rates.

The price of liquefied gas also increased.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kalola Pushta locality, said the price of one kilogram of gas increased from 65afs to 70afs.

The prices of some food items also increased while the rates of some others dropped.

Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders’ Union, said the price of a bag of 49 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour stayed at 1,700afs and 49 kilograms of Indian sugar at 2,400afs.

However, he said that the price of 24kg of Pakistani rice decreased from 2,500afs to 2,400afs, a kilogram of African black tea from 360afs to 330afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea from 350afs to 320afs.

On the other hand, Safi said that the price of a tin of 16 liters of Malaysian cooking oil increased from 1,900afs to 1,950afs. He also said that the rate of oil increased due to depreciation of the Afghani currency.

Hamed Sofizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh market, said a 49-kg bag of Kazakhstani flour cost 1,750afs, a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar 2,450afs and a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice 2,500afs.

Similarly, a 16-litre tin of Malaysian cooking oil cost 2,000afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea 350afs and the same quantity of African black tea 360afs.

Gold prices increased by three percent.

Mohammad Javid, a jeweler in Lycee Mariam neighborhood, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold increased from 3,650afs to 3,750afs and the same quantity of Russian gold from 2,950afs to 3,050afs.

Haji Dadgul, deputy head of Sara-i-Shahzada Moneychangers Union in Kabul said that one US dollar accounted for 81.85 Afghanis and 1,000 Pakistani rupees 504 Afghanis, compared to last week’s rates of 81.5afs and 500afs respectively.

This comes as the value of Afghani currency is on reduction against the US dollar since the last few days.

Moneychangers say that worsened security situation in the country is the main reason behind the currency depreciation.
