KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): A number of civil society activists in northern Kunduz province on Monday asked the central government to appoint a suitable person as the governor of the province who could pay attention to the displaced people and stop the killing of civilians.

The activists made their demands during a press conference. Inayatullah Khaliq, head of the Kunduz civil society organizations, called civilian casualties in the province as worrisome, saying 24 civilians had been killed and 647 others injured due to clashes in the past 20 days.

He also called the situation of displaced people as extremely worse, saying that if these families were not assisted, a catastrophe would occur.

Khaliq asked the central government to decide the fate of the governor of Kunduz and end the caretaker process in the earliest possible and introduce a new governor who could work with full authority.

Abdul Zahir, another civil activist in Kunduz, said all the people in the province were in difficult situation. He said the province was run by a governor whose authority was very limited and the central government has forgotten Kunduz and the people of Kunduz.
