Afghan politicians’ trip to Pakistan delayed indefinitely

KABUL (Pajhwok): An official in the Presidential Palace on Thursday said that a planned trip of Afghan politicians to Pakistan has been delayed for an indefinite period of time.

The official, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the trip would be decided after EidulAdha.

On the other hand, Voice of America reported that Pakistani officials had invited Afghan politicians to participate in a meeting in Islamabad about the ongoing situation and peace process in Afghanistan.

The report said that the meeting is suggested by Pakistan and scheduled between July 17 and 19.

Pajhwok also obtained a copy of the invitation letter which Pakistan foreign minister, Shah MahmodQuraishi, has sent to Afghan politicians.

The letter says that the meeting titled ‘Afghanistan Peace’ would be held on Saturday and Sunday.

On the other hand, Pakistan envoy to Afghanistan, Mansoor Ahmad Khan had met with many Afghan politicians including former president, Hamid Karzai, head of High Council of National Reconciliation (HCNR), Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, GulbuddinHekmatyar, Omar Daudzai and some others in the last few days.

The Pakistani ambassador in a tweet said that he talked about peace and bilateral relations during his meetings with the officials.

He told VoA that his country was in contact with Afghan government and Taliban about the Afghan peace process and finding a political solution to the Afghan conflict.

Omar Daudzai, an advisor to the president, said that he was among many other Afghan politicians who had been invited to Pakistan.

The trip was arranged earlier, but a date is still not clear, he said, adding that the trip would be helpful for the peace process.
