KABUL (Pajhwok): Taliban’s deputy supreme leader and the group’s head for its Qatar office, Mullah Abdul GhaniBaradar, on Saturday said that intra-Afghan negotiations were ongoing since last 10 months but made no progress as expected.
Baradar made the statements during a special meeting of intra-Afghan talks in Doha today. The meeting was also participated by a 10-member Afghan delegation led by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.
The Taliban’s deputy leader thanked Qatar for its hospitality and efforts to facilitate and host Afghan peace negotiations.
Baradar said the Afghan people were hoping to reach an important goal (Islamic system) and all have the responsibility not to waste huge sacrifices of the nation.
“Our nation has suffered a lot, they should not suffer more, all people and ethnic groups would live a happy life under the future Islamic system, we should work for the development of our country based on Islamic and national values,” he added.
He said that Afghans should no longer rely on others and build their country by their own. “Others cannot build this country”, he added.
For achieving this, he said, there iwa need for a strong, central and independent Islamic system. “And we should give up our personal demands and interests”,
Baradar said Afghanistan was a shared home of Afghans who should also work for serving this country.
“When we want to attain higher goals, we should ignore small things, we should have high patience and tolerance, we should remove mistrust and work for the unity of the nation…,” he said.
He added that Taliban would never allow any efforts that could damage the country’s territory and national unity.
Baradar said that intra-Afghan negotiations continued for around 10 months but it had no any progress. However, he said that people should not get disappointed about the situation.
He said that the Taliban had tried based on their ability to move the talks to a positive conclusion and that was the reason the group composed a strong negotiating team.
