Silsila Alikhil torture: Khan wants culprits nabbed

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered the arrest of culprits involved in the kidnapping and torture of the Afghan ambassador’s daughter in Islamabad.

Najibullah Alikhil’s daughter was allegedly assaulted and manhandled by unknown men in Islamabad on Friday, the Foreign Office said on Saturday.

Later in the day, Khan directed Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to utilise all possible resources to apprehend the assailants within 48 hours.

Earlier, in a series of tweets, Rashid said Khan had asked him to direct Islamabad police and other law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident on top priority and apprehend the culprits as soon as possible.

The interior minister wrote: “Accordingly, efforts are being made to thoroughly investigate the matter and apprehend the persons involved. Islamabad Police is constantly in touch with the girl and her family.”

Rashid suspected two taxi drivers of involved in manhandling Silsila Alikhil. He said law enforcement agencies had found the second taxi driver who had dropped her.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office said law enforcement agencies were tracing the culprits behind the “manhandling” of Alikhil’s daughter.

“While the security of the ambassador and his family has been beefed up, law enforcement agencies are trying to bring the culprits to justice,” the Foreign Office added.

Silsila Alikhil, 27, was returning home in a taxi after visiting a bakery in Blue Area on on Friday afternoon when the driver picked up another man, who verbally abused her.

Silsila was later dropped unconscious by the taxi driver on a roadside. Her medical report confirmed that she had been physically assaulted.
