KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia offered the United States the use of its military bases in Central Asia for information-gathering from Afghanistan, a media report said on Sunday.
A British news agency quoted Kommersant newspaper as reporting that President Vladimir Putin held out offer to his US counterpart Joe Biden last month.
According to Reuters, Putin made the offer at a June 16 meeting with Biden in Geneva. For coordination on Afghanistan, Putin said the US could use Russian bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The exchange of information obtained using drones, the report said, adding there had been no concrete response from the US.
On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed the US/NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan had made the political and military situation more uncertain.
With US and NATO troops exiting Afghanistan, Taliban have made major advances in northern provinces, setting alarm bells ringing in neighbouring Central Asian states.
