KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has discussed evolving Afghan-US relations with his American counterpart Joe Biden.
Biden promised continued US support to Afghan security forces, Ghani hoped ANDSF would defend their homeland and people.
Both sides stressed the importance of Afghans coming together for peace and security, Ghani’s office said in a brief statement.
They reiterated the enduring bilateral partnership, continued diplomatic and economic support for the Afghan government, security forces and the importance of preserving the gains of the last 20 years.
“Biden reassured me that support for the ANDSF will continue. We have confidence that they will protect and defend Afghanistan,” Ghani tweeted.
The telephonic contact, which took place on Friday evening, comes amidst a sharp spike in Taliban-linked violence across the country
Over the last two months, more than 200 districts have fallen to the Taliban. However, the government has promised all-out efforts to retake the districts.
