PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The restoration of peace in Afghanistan will enable Pakistan to gain rail access to Central Asian republics via the war-hit country, says Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Speaking to a delegation of the Pak-Afghan Youth Forum (PAYF) in Islamabad, he said Pakistan was more interested than any other country in Afghanistan’s stability.
The Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Khan saying: “We have already signed an agreement with Uzbekistan for a railway line from Mazar-i-Sharif to Peshawar.”
The Prime Minister while responding to the queries said that all the future economic policies of Pakistan depended on peace in Afghanistan.
The people of Pakistan considered the people of Afghanistan as their brothers, he added. Besides, he said, that India opened a new chapter of atrocities and brutalities against the Kashmiris.
Lamenting recent hostile statements from Afghan leaders, the premier said it was his country that convinced the Taliban into talks with the US and the government in Kabul.
Pakistan’s efforts for bringing normality to Afghanistan had been endorsed by US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad and others, he added.
He went on to acknowledge Afghanistan’s rapid progress in the field of cricket. Unlike other nations, he said, Afghanistan had achieved so much progress in a short period of time.
Khan claimed he had a consistent view that there was no military solution to the Afghan conflict, which could be resolved only through political means.
