PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s army chief says peace in Afghanistan is his country’s earnest desire and spoilers will not be allowed to derail the process.
“Peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan is interlinked. Spoilers will not be allowed to derail the peace process,” Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa told a 15-member Afghan media delegation in Rawalpindi on Friday.
Speaking about the benefits of regional connectivity for the two countries, Gen. Bajwa underlined the restoration of peace in Afghanistan for the sustainable development of the region.
Media could serve as a bridge to create an environment conducive to promoting cultural and social engagements between the two countries, the army chief believed.
In a statement from army’s media wing, Gen. Bajwa said; “It is the responsibility of media and people to identify and defeat the spoilers of peace.”
Afghan journalists commended Pakistan’s sincere efforts for the welfare of the Afghan people, including hosting of refugees and facilitative role in the peace process.
