GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Taliban militants have destroyed eleven towers of the state-run Salam telecommunication network and seized technical equipment in districts they have captured in southeastern Paktia province, officials said on Monday.
The Taliban have also shut down seven more antennas of the firms and are not allowing them to be operated, the officials said.
Abdul Samad Rohani, head of the Afghan Telecom's field office in Gardez, said the Taliban had destroyed six telecommunication towers in Chamkani and one each in Laja Mangal, Ahmad Khel, Mirzaka, Ahmadabad and Syed Karam districts.
He added that the Taliban had also confiscated some other technical equipment, including generators, solar panels and charging batteries, urging the rebels to cooperate in protecting the telecommunications towers and protect people's property.
