District police chief killed in Takhar attack

TALIQAN (Pajhwok): A district police chief was killed and two others were injured in a Taliban attack in northern Takhar province on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Maj. Khalil Asir told Pajhwok Afghan News that Baharak district police chief Lt. Noor Mohammad was killed in a mortar attack in the Block Orta area of the district on Wednesday.

The police commander was riding a tank with his bodyguards during a patrol when a Taleban mortar hit the tank, he said.

He said Lt. Noor Mohammad was killed and two other policemen were injured in the attack.

The Taliban also confirmed the attack. Their spokesman ZabihullahMujahid, said seven government troops, including Noor Mohammad, the police chief of Baharak district, had been killed and their tank destroyed in the attack.
