SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Fighting between Taliban and government forces has forced hundreds of families to flee their homes and take refuge in schools in the suburbs of Sar-i-Pul city, the capital of northern Sari Pul province.

The families from Asiad Bad and Nawabad Toghani areas left their homes after mortar shells and other Taliban weapons fell on their homes.

These families are asking the government and aid agencies to help them with food and medicine. The displaced people say they only have clothes on their bodies and nothing else.

With a lot of efforts, Pajhwok could not get the views of government officials in this regard.

Haji Zabihullah, chairman of the Asiad Bad People’s Council said, hundreds of residents of Asiabad district left their homes due to fighting and to save their lives. Some of the families have taken refuge at Rahmatabad High School. “We call on the government to provide us with immediate food aid.”

Haji Sadr al-Din, another resident of Asiad Bad, with tearful eyes, said, that the war forced them to leave their homes and now they are asking the government to provide food aid for women and children.

Asiad Bad is three kilometers from the Sar-i-Pul governor’s office and police headquarters.

Commando forces said they are fighting the Taliban and will not leave the line.

“We have no fear of the Taliban and we will fight them as long as we are alive, and the people have the right to go to safety to protect their lives,” said Enamullah, a commando soldier.
