KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan signed an agreement with United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in the light of an early promise of the Afghan government with the Transparency International, an official said Sunday.

Abdul Qayum Nizami, head of Afghanistan Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said that Afghanistan had better managed corruption considering to the recent UNAMA report about the government’s performance at controlling graft in the last one year.

He said that UNAMA also shared some of its suggestions with the Afghan government for controlling corruption in the country. These suggestions would be implemented over time, he said.

Nizami said that Afghanistan also signed an agreement with UNCAC following the government’s promise to Transparency International regarding curbing corruption.

He said that Afghanistan had performed better at dealing with graft in the last few years and was able to gain eight spots in the Corruption Perceptions Index.

A total of 112 corruption cases have registered with ACC so far and 32 of them referred to the prosecution, he added.
