FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Twenty Taliban militants were killed including the group’s red unit commander and 15 others were captured after they attacked this capital city of northeastern Badakhshan province, said security sources on Monday.
Police spokesman SanaullahRouhani told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban fighters launched an offensive from four directions to seize Faizabad on Sunday night. He added security and defense forces repulsed the attacks.
Rouhani said Mullah Hafez, commander of the Taliban's Red Unit, was killed along with 20 others and 15 others were captured by security forces.
Mohammad Ehsan, a resident of Faizabad said, that fierce clashes had been going on for the past two days.
He expressed hope that the situation would return to normal soon and that people would be relieved of confusion.
Pajhwok tried to get the Taliban to response, but in vain.
