AIBAK (Pajhwok): The Taliban have captured Hazrat Sultan district of northern Samangan province, an official said on Monday.
Police spokesman Munir Rahimi said the security forces in the province had retreated to Aibak to better coordinate security affairs.
He said the militants had stepped up their activities in Aibak and security personnel had been deployed to protect the provincial capital.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the movement’s fighters had overrun Hazrat Sultan district besides seizing a large quantity of arms and ammunition.
