KABUL (Pajhwok): The State Ministry for Natural Disasters Management on Tuesday said that 10,000 families who have been displaced by recent conflicts would be settled in camps in capital Kabul in a week.
GhulamBahauddinJailani, State Minister for Natural Disasters Management, in a conference today in Kabul said that around 60,000 families had been displaced from various parts of the country following recent violence since the last two months.
He said that 17,000 of the displaced families had taken refuge in Kabul. Jailani said that 53,000 families had so far received emergency assistance but a large number of these families were still in need of urgent help.
He asked international organizations to cooperate with Afghanistan in addressing the needs of IDPs.
Jailani said his ministry in cooperation with the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation was working on creating camps for the settlement of the displaced families in Barikab, Bagrami, Pul-i-Charkhi and government facilities which were currently not in use in Kabul.
These camps are considered for 10,000 families and they would be put to use in a week, he added.
There are 3,000 to 5,000 tents available for entitled displaced families in these camps, he said, adding that emergency assistance to IDPs in Sara-i-Shamali and Shahr-i-Naw areas were going on since Monday.
Jailani said that the ministry distributed essential items such as potable water, blankets, carpets and mobile toilets to these families from 6pm yesterday afternoon to 2am last night.
Taliban militants have accelerated their attacks on provincial capitals and so far they captured the centers of Nimroz, Sar-i-Pul, Jawzjan, Takhar, Samangan and Farah provinces.
