HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A public representative on Friday said the Zafar Military Corps had surrendered to the Taliban who also captured the airport in western Herat province.
A member of the provincial council of Ghor province, Ghulam Habib ,told this to Pajhwok Afghan News at around 12:30 pm.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi also said that the Zafar Corps headquarters in Herat had been captured by the Taliban. He said 300 commandos and a large number of military personnel surrendered to the Taliban.
Government sources have not yet commented in this regard.
The provincial government officials yesterday went to the Zafar Military Corps after the Taliban seized Herat city.
It is not known where former governor Ismail Khan, who led an uprising against the Taliban, is.
