KABUL (Pajhwok): Canada will expand its resettlement programme for Afghans as the situation in the country continues to deteriorate.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a Facebook post: “As Afghans continue to be threatened by the Taliban and are being forced to flee from their homes, we’re expanding our resettlement programme.
The premier wrote his government was going to resettle 20,000 vulnerable Afghan nationals and expedite the process.
He said they would continue to resettle the Afghans who contributed to Canada’s efforts in Afghanistan and they would introduce a a special programme focusing on particularly vulnerable groups.
The programme will focus on women leaders, human rights defenders, journalists, persecuted religious minorities and family members of previously-resettled interpreters.
