PARAKH (Pajhwok): A number of residents of central Panjsher province staged a protest demonstration against the Taliban in Parakh on Saturday.
Carrying the flag of the former mujahidin government, the protestors changed slogans against the Taliban and strong resistance.
The angry protestors, who fired into the air, said it was sort of a military maneuver for them.
Mahmood Saleh Mujahid, head of youth council in Panjsher and organiser of the rally, said: “Our message to the Taliban is that we don’t want them and would never want them.
“The Taliban have attacked us today and we reserve the right to fight against them with axes and swords that we have.”
Farhad, one of the protestors, called on the people to rise against the Taliban. “Never show mercy to this enemy and suppress them.”
Ghulam Niamatullah, a former holy warrior, said he was ready to fight against the Taliban insurgents.
“The government has failed. Now that you are young, stand firm against the Taliban,” he remarked.
It comes as the Taliban have recently stepped-up attacks on major Afghan cities and have seized several provincial capitals.
