Taliban takeover not in US interest: Graham

KABUL (Pajhwok): An influential US senator has commended the Americans who served in Afghanistan and their family members.

“You provided protection to our nation for 20 years against another 9/11,” Lindsey Graham tweeted on Friday.

The lawmaker wrote: “I know it is difficult to see Afghanistan deteriorate so quickly, but you and your comrades in arms – some who made the ultimate sacrifice – did your job to protect America.”

The Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan was not in America’s national security interest, said the senator from South Carolina

He added the Taliban’s true sympathies were with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).

“It will only be a matter of time before our homeland is again threatened from Afghanistan,” Graham said.
