KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of fuel have increased by nearly 8.5 percent while the rate of sugar and tea has increased by 8.4 percent during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said Saturday.
A worker in Hashemi Fuel Station in Taimani area of Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of a liter of petrol increased from 65 Afghanis to 69 Afghanis and the same quantity of diesel from 55 Afghanis to 57afs.
Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kalola Pushta locality, said the price of one kilogram of gas increased from 70afs to 80afs.
Both the sources said that the hike in price was linked to the political changes in the country and stoppage of most of petroleum imports.
The prices of food items increased by 8.4 percent.
Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders’ Union, said the wholesale price of 49 kilograms of Indian sugar was increased from 2,380afs to 2,600afs, a kilogram of black African tea from 360afs to 380afs and the same quantity of 320afs to 340afs.
However, he said that the price of a bag of 49kg of Kazakhstani flour was 2,000afs, a tin of 16 liters of Malaysian cooking oil 2,100afs and 24kg of Pakistani rice 2,400afs, the same as last week’s.
Hamed Sofizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh market, said a 49-kg bag of Kazakhstani flour cost 2,100afs, 24kg of Pakistani rice 2,500afs, a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar 2,650afs, a 16-litre tin of Malaysian cooking oil 2,140afs, a kilogram of African black tea cost 350afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea 390afs.
Following political changes in Afghanistan, most of markets including Sara-i-Shahzada, a monetary service market, and gold stores are shut.
According to Pajhwok’s last week report, the price of one gram of Arabian gold was 3,650afs and the same quantity of Russian variety 2,950afs.
One US dollar was accounted for 80afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 500 Afghanis last week.
