PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan will continue to play its role in bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan, says the country’s army chief.
Stability in the neighbouring country was direly needed by the entire region, especially the Afghans themselves, Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa believed.
Addressing cadets at the Pakistan Military Academy at Kakul on Friday, he said: “We expect the Taliban will honour their promises regarding the rights of women.”
Pakistan’s sincere efforts to promote the Afghan peace process were aimed at making the region peaceful and prosperous.
He added: “We have consistently made it clear to the international community that it must play a role in finding a peaceful solution to Afghanistan.”
Gen. Bajwa noted Pakistan had paid a heavy price for unrest in Afghanistan. Despite its economic woes, Pakistan sheltered more than three million Afghan refugees for decades, he continued.
