PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): An apex South Asian trade body has underlined global support for boosting Afghanistan’s economy.

In this way, the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, the world could support Afghanistan’s reconstruction effort.

Iftikhar Ali Malik, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry representative, urged international players and donors to stay engaged to support the Afghans and restore country’s economy.

In a statement, he said the aid flow in 2020 represented 42.9 per cent of Afghanistan’s $19.8 billion GDP.

Malik added Afghan’s economy was also hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Taliban had acknowledged they could not improve the situation without foreign help.

He said Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid had spoken to many countries to work with them on their economy as Afghanistan needed global help.
