Taliban detain former head of Ulema Council

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Former Afghanistan ulema Council chief Maulvi Mohammad Sardar Zadran has been arrested by the Taliban in southeastern Khost province,sources said on Monday.

However, the reason for the arrest of Zardran, confirmed by the Taliban, was yet to be known, one source said.

Samiullah, son of Maulvi Zadran, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban picked his father from his house at around 10:00am on Sunday.

Deputy Governor Maulvi Mohammad Din Shah Mokhbat confirmed to Pajhwok the detention of the former Afghanistan Ulema Council chairman. He did not provide further details, however.

The Taliban had announced a general amnesty after they took over Kabul earlier in the month. They said they had enmity with none.
