Taliban to form inclusive govt, China hopes

KABUL (Pajhwok): China hopes the Taliban will soon establish an inclusive and representative government in Afghanistan.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin believed the new Afghan government would crack down on all kinds of terrorist forces.

Xinhua news agency quoted Wang as telling reporters at a news conference on Tuesday that with the pullout of US troops, Afghanistan had turned a new page.

He said: “Afghanistan has freed itself of foreign military occupation. The Afghan people have ushered in a new beginning for national peace…”

The US withdrawal had proved that wanton military intervention in other countries and the policy of imposing values on other countries would lead nowhere, he added.

While always respecting Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, China consistently adhered to non-interference in its internal affairs, the spokesman continued.

The realisation of peace, stability and economic development in Afghanistan would be impossible in the absence of an inclusive political structure, the spokesperson insisted.

Wang Wenbin promised China would continue to maintain close coordination with all parties in Afghanistan and the international community.

Beijing would lend assistance to help Afghanistan restore peace, rebuild its economy and combat all terrorist groups, he assured.
