KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations secretary-general will travel to Geneva to convene a high-level humanitarian meeting to address Afghanistan’s growing needs.
A statement from Antonio Guterres office on Friday said Afghanistan was facing a looming humanitarian catastrophe.
The conference would advocate for a swift funding scale-up so the lifesaving humanitarian operation can continue, the statement said.
The meeting will appeal for full and unimpeded humanitarian access to make sure Afghans continue to get the essential services they need.
Nearly half of Afghanistan’s 38 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. One-third of Afghans do not know where their next meal will come from.
