PARAKH (Pajhwok): The Taliban on Sunday claimed taking control of all districts of Panjshir province and were advancing on Parakh, the provincial capital, a claim the Resistance Front rejected.
Taliban Deputy Spokesperson Mohammad Bilal Karimi said the Rakha district of Panjshir bordering Parakh fell to the Taliban on Sunday.
He said earlier the Taliban held control of five districts and were advancing on the provincial capital Parakh, locally called Bazarak.
But sources in Panjshir said three districts --- Anaba, Shatal and Paryan --- were in the Taliban control and they were closing in on Rakha district where heavy fighting between the two sides was ongoing.
Sources said that fresh Taliban armed personnel had entered Panjshir but there was no fighting between the two sides.
