KABUL (Pajhwok): A number of religious scholars in Kabul on Sunday called on the Taliban and Ahmad Massoud to resolve the issue of Panjshir province through peaceful means.
Holding a gathering at the Abdul Rahman Mosque in Kabul, the clerics called on both sides of the Panjshir conflict to return to peace talks and save hundreds of lives in the ongoing fighting.
They also issued a statement at the end of their speeches, urging an immediate end to the ongoing fighting in Panjshir. For lasting peace, the statement read, both sides must stop fighting and allow scholars and well-wishers to hold peace talks in a grand gathering and reach a conclusion.
The Ulema called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), all well-wishers of the country and the Islamic world, to take practical steps to resolve the Panjshir issue. To end the war, the two sides should be invited to a grand meeting in Kabul to conduct negotiations.
The scholars called on the officials of the Islamic Emirate to lift sanctions imposed on Panjshir so that the people of Panjshir were saved from the crisis.
Since war between the Muslims has no legal justification, Panjshir is also a part of Afghanistan, said the scholars, who added they wanted the Resistance Front and the Islamic Emirate to stop the war and establish a just government through peaceful means.
