KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations has rejected the new government, asking the world not to recognise the Taliban as he country’s legitimate rulers
Ghulam Isaczai, addressing the UN General Assembly late on Tuesday, called the Taliban government “anything but inclusive”.
The Afghans would not accept a political set-up that did not include women and minorities, hoped the ambassador, who called for the UN to reject the return of the Islamic Emirate.
NDTV quoted Isaczai as saying: “We ask all member states of the United Nations to help us promote a culture of peace in Afghanistan.”
He also called for the global fraternity to hold the Taliban to account for their violation of human rights and humanitarian law.
The diplomat went on to urge member states to draw a clear red line regarding Taliban’s treatment of women and girls and respect for their rights.
Referring to fighting in Panjsher valley, he said: “They (Taliban) continue to choose war over peace as a way of resolving their differences with their rivals…”
Isaczai denounced Taliban for overthrowing the elected Government of Afghanistan and grabbing power through violence.
