KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Tens of residents of old military corps area in Kandahar City rallied against the Taliban decision in which they were told to vacate their homes in three days.

While reporting the protest, a local journalist was beaten and humiliated by the Taliban.

The military corps area is a state land but from the past 20 years nearly 3,000 families have living here and most of them constructed building on their expenditure.

The protesters began the rally and reached to the governor house to register their complaint.

They said the residents of this area were not sound economically and they constructed their homes with their personal expenses. They asked the Taliban not to expel them from their homes or provide them shelter in other place.

Haji Mohammad, one of the rally participant, said the Taliban last night made announcements in the loudspeakers of mosques that people should vacate homes in three days.

“You know better that it is a difficult time, we don’t have money to arrange food and they threaten us to be expelled from homes,” he said.

According to Mohammad it is true that this is a state land but people in the past 20 years constructed homes and worked hard in this area.

Another protester Haroon Agha said he constructed a small home in the military corps area, adding that he saved money and bought different construction material to complete the construction.

He added most people have lost the ability to arrange a rent home, adding that Taliban issued warning to leave homes.

The Taliban have not shared their views regarding the protest rally.

Meanwhile the Taliban beaten and humiliated the Millat Ghagh Radio reporter Bismillah Watandost.

He said he was buys to seek the protester views when a Taliban personnel hit him and stopped him from the coverage.

The Kandahar Governor Office said that residents of old military corps area could stay at their homes for the time being and said there were some families who constructed homes at their personal expense.
