Jawzjan journalists demand curbs imposed on media lifted

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Media persons in northern Jawzjan province demanded the removal of curbs imposed on media activities.

Mahbob Mehran, the Radio Mehran in-charge, said: “The Cultural and Information Department head demanded us to submit broadcasting materials with the department before it go on air.”

“This is difficult for us, this means the Taliban don’t believe over the freedom of expression and wanted to impose curbs on media activities in Jawzjan province,” he added.

Alina Rasa, an anchor person of the Sazaan program in Radio Television Ghazal said some curbs had been imposed on the media activities by the Information Department.

She said now anchor persons and journalists don’t have the right to work in the media and them all sitting at home.

Qamaruddin Poya Azizi, a journalist in Shiberghan, said: “I am going through bad days of my life because the information department asked me to share news and other materials with them before broadcasting.”
