Cooking oil, sugar prices down in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of cooking oil and sugar have dipped while that of gold, Kazakhstani flour, tea and petrol increased during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said Saturday.

A worker at Hashemi Fuel Station in Taimani area of Kabul city, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of one liter of petrol increased from 61 Afghanis to 63 Afghanis while the price of the same quantity of diesel stayed at 52 Afghanis this week.

After the fall of the republic government into the hands of Taliban on August 15, the situation in Afghanistan turned to military authority. After the collapse of the government, all exports and imports to the country stopped as well as most governmental and none governmental organizations shut followed by rise of essential items prices.

The price of liquefied gas remain unchanged.

Mohammad Sharif, a gas seller in Kulula Pushta area of Kabul said that the price of a kilogram of the commodity was stood at 70 Afghanis.

Flour and black tea prices soared while the rate of cooking oil dipped.

Zamarai Safi, head of Food Traders Union in Kabul said that the price of a bag of 49 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour increased from 1,850afs to 1,900afs and the price of a kilogram of black tea soared from 340afs to 380afs.

However, he said that the wholesale price of a bag of 49kg of Indian sugar dipped from 2,550afs to 2,200afs and a tin of 16 liters of Malaysian cooking oil from 2,080afs to 2,050afs.

Hamed Sofizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh market, said a 49-kg bag of Kazakhstani flour cost 1,950afs, a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar 2,250afs and a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice 2,500afs.

Similarly, a 16-litre tin of Malaysian cooking oil cost 2,200afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea 360afs and the same quantity of African black tea 390afs.

The price of Russian gold has increased.

Mohammad Javid, a jeweler in Lycee Maryam area in Kabul city, said that the price of one gram of Russian gold  was increased from 2,950afs to 3,050afs.

However, he said that the price of one gram of Arabian gold remained at 3,800afs.

Haji Hussain, owner of Sadaqat Money Exchange Service in Sara-i-Shahzada Market in Kabul said that one US dollar accounted for 85.80afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees 503afs, compared to last week’s rates of 84.20afs and 585afs respectively.
