KABUL (Pajhwok): The Passport Department on Saturday announced the arrest of some individuals for selling forged passports for more than $1000 apiece.
On Friday, Pajhwok Afghan News published a report that the passport issuance service had been on hold for a month, but the document was still being issued unlawfully.
Findings of Pajhwok Afghan News show that Afghanistan’s passports are still being distributed by some touts.
In a statement on Saturday, the department said a number of people had been detained in different parts of Kabul in connection with making and distributing fake passports.
The agents were held by the passport department in cooperation and coordination with intelligence operatives of the Ministry of Interior.
The detainees, who are said to have confessed to their crime, were handed over to relevant authorities for further investigations.
The department once again urged the people not to be deceived by such people. Activities of the department would resume soon.
