KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of northern Kunduz province have been complaining against the non-availability of medicines in public sector hospitals that caused problems for common people.

Nader Shah, a resident of Kunduz City, told Pajhwok Afghan News that no medicines were available in state-run hospitals, adding that people had to purchase medicines from the bazaar.

“My brother is hospitalised in the Zonal Hospital, there is no medicine available there and everyone brings medicine from bazaar. This is a huge problem that people are facing, we want medicines in the hospitals,” he added.

Ismael, another resident of Kunduz City, said even common medicines are not available in the hospital and people go out for a single dose medicine to bazaar to buy it.

“There is no medicine nor there is food for patients in the hospital from A to Z everything should be purchased from outside,” he said.

Public Health Director Qari Anwar told Pajhwok Afghan News some hospitals in the province facing medicine shortage.

“During the past three years, the medicine contact for Kunduz hospitals could not be inked with any company, therefore hospitals are facing shortage of medicines,” he said.

He added the health commission of the Islamic Emirate had been contacted in this regard and they assured to help resolve the medicine shortage issue.

It is worth mentioning that in the past the World Bank supported many health centres and health related projects but after the takeover of Taliban the World Bank had halted funding these institutions.
