KABUL (Pajhwok): Top Saudi and Indian diplomats have exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan, where the Taliban seized power last month.
During his maiden trip to India, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi on Sunday
Following their talks, Jaishankar tweeted they had a “very useful exchange of views” on the issue of Afghanistan, along with the Gulf and the Indo-Pacific”
He wrote: “A cordial and productive meeting. Discussed our cooperation in the political, security and socio-cultural pillars of our strategic partnership.”
Al Saud, currently on a three-day trip to India, is scheduled to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in day (Monday).
In addition to discussing the situation in Afghanistan, the foreign ministers also conferred on collaboration in in fight against the (Covid-19 pandemic, The Hindustan Times reported.
Jaishankar urged Al Saud to resume direct flights between India and Saudi Arabia, which remain suspended due to the pandemic.
Implementation of the Strategic Partnership Council Agreement between India and Saudi Arabia, signed in 2019, was also reviewed.
The Ministry of External Affairs said, “The ministers discussed all issues related to their bilateral relationship and regional and international issues of mutual interest.”
