US eyeing Russian base near Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): The US has asked Russia for a military base near Afghanistan to deal with emerging threats in the war-torn country, the Pentagon’s top military officer says.

Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, raised the issue at the request of President Biden’s National Security in his meeting with Russian Chief of General Staff Valery.

Gen. Gerasimov was noncommittal during the Helsinki meeting. A Kremlin spokesman declined to comment, The Wall Street Journal reported. On the other hand, he Pentagon and Milley have said nothing in this regard.
