GARDEZ (Pajhwok): After a Pajhwok Afghan News report, UNICEF donated medical supplies worth $115,000 to the health department of southeastern Paktia province.
Last week, Pajhwok published a report about the lack of essential medicines in many health facilities in Paktia.
One week after the publication of Pajhwok’s report, UNICEF provided the assistance.
Dr. Bismillah Khushal, a UNICEF health official, said the donation of medicines, serums and other items related Covid-19 valued $115,000.
Khushal is concerned about the current situation of the health sector and says they would continue assistance to Paktia.
He told Pajhwok: “These items include 13 types of medicines and serums. Most of them are essential for winter ailments and will be used extensively in Covid-19. We will continue to provide our assistance.”
Dr. Samiullah, head of the pharmacy stock at the Paktia public health department, said the aid was crucial for Paktia and stressed the need for more attention and supplies in the health sector.
Dr. Abdul Ghani, a paediatrician at the Paktia Hospital, said the aid had arrived at a critical time and called on the UN agency and other relevant international organizations to provide serious assistance in the field of health.
