‘Salang Pass reconstruction will complete in 15 days’

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Work on the rehabilitation of a 30 kilometre road, including Salang Pass, was underway in full speed by two different companies, an official said.

Qazi Abdullah Obaid, head of the Salang Protection and Safety Authority, said the graveling work of the 30 kilometre road by two construction companies has kicked off 20 days ago.

He said the construction work will cost 53 million afs and will be completed in 15 days.

“The construction companies demanded 12 million afs for the rehabilitation inside tunnel. This is a huge amount and we decided to do it ourselves since we have professional and committed individuals,” he said.

Drivers are also happy for the rehabilitation of Salang Pass.

Mohammad Dawod, a driver, said one month earlier, the road was in bad condition and driving on it was difficult.

“Now work is underway on this vital road. Driving has become easy and passengers also reach their destinations in time.”

In the past, security issues were too many but now after regime change there is stability and people travel without fear.
